Chicks Dig It! (week 2)

Last week I began an inspiring journey, looking into the deep psyche of the average American male.  You know, the kind of guy who does something just to impress (or get the attention of) a girl, usually a girl he does not even know.

These insights were inspired by my daughters (and a number of other wonderful females) as they would ask, "Dad, why is he doing that?"  or "Dad, doesn't he know how stupid he looks?"

Chicks Dig It #3 & #4

Peeling Out, Burning Rubber, Spinning Donuts (or whatever you want to call it)

Now this one hurt a little when I discovered the average American teenage girl thinks that smoking the tires is stupid.  Common!  I did this when I was young.  I remember seeing smiles on girls faces as I took off from a stop sign.  I have now learned those girls were smirking, not smiling.

Girls have this "common sense" thing built into them from birth.  It doesn't necessarily influence their "shopaholic" tendencies, but when they see tires smoking they tend to think, "Doesn't that ruin the tires?"  Of course it does.  They also think, "Isn't that dangerous?"  Yes, to a degree.  Humm...ruins things and is dangerous...that sort of spells STUPID.

Making Really Loud Noise

This tends to be something they are born with also.  It doesn't quite make sense, because, when you get a group of girls together in the same room, a nuclear bomb(fusion or fission, it doesn't matter) could go off and they wouldn't hear it.  But again, at a young age they just aren't impressed by loud noises coming from mechanical devises.

 

This doesn't change when they get older.

 

They just express their annoyance in different ways.

Chicks Dig It! (week 1)

I am the father of three wonderful daughters.  They are completely normal, red-blooded females.  They like things that most girls like and dislike things that most girls dislike.  Over the years I have had the privilege of being around many other females as they would invade my house for parties, get togethers, hanging out time or whatever. 

From an early age, I enjoyed engaging them in conversations about what girls like.  I usually took advantage of teachable moments, especially when guys did something stupid they thought would impress girls.  Most of these teachable moments occurred during their teenage years.  I began to compile a list called, "Chicks Dig It!"  These were things that, for some reason, guys think girls are impressed by, but it has the opposite effect on girls.

The next few weeks I will share a few of these thoughts.

Chicks Dig It #1 & #2

Big Trucks That Girls Can't Get Into

This was always a favorite of my girls.  A guy would drive by in a truck where the chassis was five feet off the ground, thinking he was cool and thinking he really impressed the girls.  My daughters would inevitably say, "Dad, why does that guy think that is cool?  No girl in her right mind would ever try to get into that truck, especially in a dress!"  (Maybe the guy wasn't looking for a girl in her right mind)

Sagging Pants

I did a little unofficial Internet research and discovered that 999 out of 1000 females are repulsed by sagging pants on guys.  The more the sag, the deeper the repulsion.  My girls have asked me, "Dad, why do guys where their pants like that?"  I always try to give my girls a straightforward, honest response.  I tell them that guys really love it when girls exposetheir undergarments, so they are stupid enough to think that girls like it when guys do the same.  My girls have grown up with the silly notion that girls shouldn't expose their undergarments because of how guys will think of them and treat them, so they can't figure out why guys aren't smart enough to do the same.  Go think.

Relax

Last week I took several days to just relax.  I stayed in a little house surrounded by Redwood trees and other forest type stuff.  A small creek flowed nearby.  A few, short minutes away was the beach.

I relax by reading, resting and taking long walks.  After the first day I could sense refreshment washing over me.  I hung out at a favorite coffeeplace in the morning, took long walks again in the afternoon and evening, enjoyed some fresh fish at night.  Wow, I'm relaxed again just thinking about it.

I don't often get the chance to get away alone and just fully recharge.  I am so glad that God provides a way to recharge and experience His relaxation, even during the busy weeks and the tough times.

John 14:27-29 says,

 “I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.  Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.”

I love these verses and think of them often.  Jesus gave me the gift of peace.  It is there all the time.  I don't have to earn it.  When I feel stressed, He gives His gift.  When I feel overwhelmed, His supernatural peace can take control, if I will let it.
